ACDA of Minnesota Student and Young
Educator Symposium
Bethel University, St. Paul
This year’s Symposium will focus on the work of
our visiting clinician and guest conductor for
the Minnesota Collegiate Choral Festival, Dr.
Craig Jessop. A native of Millville, Utah, Dr.
Jessop was a student of Robert Shaw and received
his B. A. from Utah State University, M. A. from
Brigham Young University and Doctorate of
Musical Arts from Stanford University. He is the
head of the Music Department at Utah State
University, in Logan, Utah. Dr. Jessop was named
Associate Director of the Mormon Tabernacle
Choir in 1995 and became Music Director in 1999.
Our focus this year is, Looking from the
outside-in! Through observations of a
master teacher working both with a high school
ensemble and a collegiate massed choir, we will
identify the techniques used to achieve success
and enable positive student responses. Also,
through watching the final rehearsals of several
participating collegiate ensembles, we can see
what ‘those last few moments’ before performance
look like from the outside.
Dr. Jessop will lead the morning session with
the Symposium participants. We will also observe
him clinic with the Minnetonka High School
Concert Choir, Paula Holmberg, director, and
lead the first rehearsal of the Collegiate
Festival Massed Choir as they prepare for the
world premiere of Eric Barnum’s new work,
"looking up...".
Registration for the whole day is $10 and will
be payable at Saturday morning's on-site
registration. Lunch will be available, and
the cost is approximately $9.75 payable directly
to the Bethel University Dining Service.

anticipated Minnesota Collegiate Choral Festival

November 14 at the Bethel University Benson

prepare for the day’s events, ACDA Student

Aspaas (aspaas@stolaf.edu)
