Past President Memories
Wayne M. Kivell (1972-1974)
Overall, it was pretty easy to accomplish a lot of things back then, because prior to 1972, there really was no active state organization, only an appointed state president. The sole annual activity was sponsoring one session at the MMEA Mid-Winter Clinic.
From 1972-74, as ACDA-MN state president, we:
Established the first state ACDA-MN board of directors
Divided the state into six geographic districts
Began the “Star of the North” state newsletter with me serving as editor (1972-75).
Doubled the active state membership from 66 to 132
Established the first State Convention in 1974 located at Normandale Community College, which has been held annually since, except in the years with Minnesota hosted the Divisional Convention
Established the FMC Lifetime Achievement Award in consultation and support of the Christiansen family. First recipient was Leland B. Sateren of Augsburg College in 1975.
