Background:

I graduated from Concordia College in 1990 and have been teaching ever since.  I started out teaching vocal music to grades K-12 in Edgerton, MN.  In the fall of 1995, I started teaching in my hometown of Luverne, MN.  I taught elementary in Luverne for 15 years and then became the middle/high school choir director seven years ago.  I currently direct four choirs and give lessons to the high school students.

ACDA of Minnesota has been such a powerful influence in my choral teaching career.  Meeting people from across the state who love choral music and the music making process is so refreshing.  There is no way any of us can have all the answers, but if we share our experiences with our colleagues, we are only strengthening our value and purpose in society.   Whether you teach choral music in a school, a community or in a church, we can always learn from each other.  I once had a colleague say to me, “never get to the point in your life when you think you have all the answers”.  I will never have all the answers, but as long as I am still curious and interested in finding new ways to help my students, I am on the right track.  So my message to all my colleagues is, don’t be afraid to ask questions and always keep searching for new and innovative ideas.
