Director of Choral Music: Saint Agnes School

Saint Agnes School, Saint Paul, MN

The Director of Choral Music is responsible for teaching music theory, vocal skills and planning performances for the following choirs:

Concert Chorale

  • Auditioned High School mixed voices (meets 5 days/week, all year)
  • Directs the Concert Chorale at weekly Mass
  • Prepares the Order of Worship in both Latin and English liturgical settings for approval by the Pastor.

  Madrigal Singers

  • Auditioned, highest level of choir and current member of the Concert Chorale (meets during the day and after school)
  • Small ensemble of 16 – 24 mixed voices

     7th/8th Grade Boys Choir and 7th/8th Grade Girls Choir

  • Required of all 7th and 8th grade students (opposite of band)
  • Meets every other day during school

5th/6th Grade Choir

  • Required of all 5th and 6th grade students (and not participating in band)
  • Meets twice a week during school

This position will begin in the 2017-18 school year.


  • Practicing Roman Catholic, in possession of a substantial knowledge and appreciation of both the Latin and English liturgical traditions of sacred music
  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Music Education or Bachelor of Arts in Choral or Vocal Performance
  • Piano competency in teaching choral parts and playing choral accompaniments  
  • Strong overall knowledge of music history and theory
  • Experience as a skilled choir director with the ability to direct a variety of age levels.
  • Knowledgeable of all genres of sacred and secular choral literature with a special expertise in Gregorian chant and Renaissance music
  • Possesses a “good sense of taste” in choosing quality choral literature, including newly composed music for all grade levels
  • Has interpersonal skills that will develop relationships with parents, staff, and alumni.
