Diana J. Leland

Diana J. Leland is in her thirty-first year of teaching choral music. She was a choral director with Edina Public Schools for twenty-nine years where she directed at Valley View Middle School and the Varsity Choirs at Edina High School. A native of Wisconsin, her teaching career began in Janesville (WI) and Manitowoc (WI) where she taught junior high choral music prior to moving to Minnesota in 1974. Diana received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana, in 1969, and a Master of Science in Teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1971.

From 1980-83, Diana served as the first full-time General Manager for the Dale Warland Singers. Through her creative effort of developing the Singers' inaugural Twin Cities concert series, the Dale Warland Singers local and national profile and audience attendance were dramatically increased. She returned to directing choirs at Edina n 1983.

Her leadership roles with Edina Schools included: District Music Coordinator, Chairperson of the Comprehensive Arts Planning Program, Applied Arts Area Leader, Eighth Grade Team Coordinator, and Seventh Grade Team Coordinator. In addition to her current teaching duties at Edina High School, Diana was selected (2000-present) as the Teaching and Learning Specialist for Music, Visual Arts and Theatre.

A life member of ACDA, Diana has served the organization in many capacities: North Central Division Assistant Convention Chairperson (1976-78), Minnesota State President (1979-81), North Central Division President (1984-86), North Central Division Convention Chairperson (1986-88), National Convention Chairperson (1987-89), National President (1989-91), National Vice-President (1991-93) and Chair of ACDA National Past Presidents' Council (1993-95).

Diana has also been actively involved with international choral music. She is a member of the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) and served on its global Board of Directors from 1989-93 and again from 1996-2002 She has attended all seven of the IFCM World Symposia on Choral Music, and served as the Secretary for the Board of Directors of the Sixth Symposium held in Minneapolis during August 2002.

Diana is also a member of Chorus America, MENC, MMEA, Sigma Alpha Iota, Kappa Delta Pi, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Education Association, Education Minnesota, Education Edina and is listed in the International Who's Who in Music.
